FAQs

1. What is the difference between a personal chef and a private chef?
A private chef is employed by one individual or family full time and prepares up to three meals per day. A personal chef serves several clients, usually one per day, and provides multiple meals that are packaged and stored so that the client may enjoy them at their leisure throughout the week.

2. Where does the personal chef prepare the food?
On the agreed upon cooking date Chef On Thyme will bring FRESH ingredients for meals along with our own pots, pans, and utensils and prepare the entrees and sides on site. At the end of the day, Chef On Thyme will leave the kitchen clean and the refrigerator/freezer stocked with meals for the rest of the week or however many entrees are agreed upon.

3. How long will it take to cook the meals?
Chef On Thyme will be cooking several different entrees and side dishes from scratch, so it will take several hours. We can work together on the client’s schedule or situation and we will make arrangements in advance so that the cooking date and time is compatible with both of us.

4. How does the personal chef leave the finished food?
Chef On Thyme will store the food in either disposable or reusable containers for the refrigerator or freezer, depending upon when it is going to be eaten. We will always leave easy-to-follow heating instructions for each side and entrée. The frozen food should be defrosted in the refrigerator overnight and heated according to the directions, so as to be enjoyed at the peak of its flavor.

5. Does someone need to be home while the chef is working?
No, Chef On Thyme is fully licensed and bonded for any liability damages. Also, while we are cooking your delightful meals the kitchen is our “office” and we work more efficient without many distractions.

6. Does Chef On Thyme request payment ahead of each cooking date?
It is customary to get paid for groceries and the container fee in advance of the cooking date. Then you will be billed for the remainder on the cooking date when we have stored all the food and cleaned up the kitchen.

7. How often will clients need Chef On Thyme’s service?
The client and Chef On Thyme will determine how often to schedule our services to best serve the client’s needs and support their lifestyle and our schedule.

8. Does Chef On Thyme offer any other services or catering?
YES, our personal chef service will cater small dinner parties or luncheons. Currently we are a small business growing and at this point and time we can only handle twenty or less people, more if the menu allows. A personal chef service is great for that perfect gift for an intimate evening at home for two or for the new mother bringing home baby for the first time, home from the hospital after surgery, or even the returning honeymooners. Just think, having a dinner party where you actually get to spend time with your guests and not in the kitchen. However, prices for some of these services differ depending on the kind of meal the client is looking for and we will propose those meals on a one on one basis.
